Chimney Cap Replacement

Hail, wind, use and improper installation can cause issues with the chimney caps, which tend to age over time. Ensuring proper installation is critical for fire safety.

Service Description

A standard cap comes in several sizes and is bonded to the outside edge of your chimney top opening. For this reason, the mortar crown on top of your chimney must be in good condition or your cap will not be securely attached. We will check your chimney’s crown for you to see whether it is sound. If not, we will recommend repairing it or installing a custom cap that will cover the entire top of the chimney. Standard stainless caps will often exceed their lifespan due to weather and will need replaced. This is an easy process that will protect your roof/siding from fire danger.

When is this Relevant?

These caps offer a range of benefits, serving as a barrier against rainwater, preventing moisture-related damage to your chimney and home. Their mesh or wire sides act as effective deterrents against birds, squirrels, and other animals, providing a safeguard for your chimney.

Some chimney caps also feature spark arrestors, minimizing fire hazards by containing sparks. Additionally, they block debris like leaves and twigs, ensuring proper ventilation and reducing the risk of blockages. With corrosion-resistant materials, chimney caps contribute to the longevity of your chimney system.

Chimney Cap Replacement Process:

We begin the process by removing the old cap, cleaning the chimney and repairing any damage to your mortar, sealant, or bricks. Once the old cap is in place, we install the new chimney cap following manufacturer instructions and using appropriate fasteners (these will change based on the type of chimney system that you have).

Finally, a waterproof sealant is applied to prevent water infiltration, and we conduct a final inspection to confirm proper installation.
